SALM equips clinicians who already work at FREC 4 or above to safely administer life-saving medication in the out-of-hospital environment, under their employing organisation's clinical governance.
Course Content
- Legal and professional framework for medicines administration
- Principles of pharmacology — how lifesaving medicines work
- Assessing the patient's condition to determine the appropriate medication
- Drug calculations
- Routes of administration, including oral, sublingual, intramuscular and inhaled
- Safe checking, storage, security and stock control
- Administration in context — anaphylaxis, the diabetic patient, and others
- Post-administration monitoring, recognition of deterioration
- Documentation, record keeping and reporting of adverse events
