SALM equips clinicians who already work at FREC 4 or above to safely administer life-saving medication in the out-of-hospital environment, under their employing organisation's clinical governance.

Course Content

  • Legal and professional framework for medicines administration
  • Principles of pharmacology — how lifesaving medicines work
  • Assessing the patient's condition to determine the appropriate medication
  • Drug calculations
  • Routes of administration, including oral, sublingual, intramuscular and inhaled
  • Safe checking, storage, security and stock control
  • Administration in context — anaphylaxis, the diabetic patient, and others
  • Post-administration monitoring, recognition of deterioration
  • Documentation, record keeping and reporting of adverse events
