FREC 3 is the core pre-hospital qualification for event medical cover and first responder roles. It bridges workplace first aid and emergency care, and is delivered over five days with practical and written assessment.

Course Content

  • Role, responsibilities and safe working practice of the pre-hospital responder
  • Scene safety, risk assessment and safe approach
  • Structured patient assessment — primary and secondary survey
  • Airway management — manual manoeuvres, OPA/NPA and suction
  • Basic life support and AED use — adult, child and infant
  • Emergency oxygen administration
  • Catastrophic haemorrhage control — tourniquet application and wound packing
  • Multi-system trauma, chest injuries, wounds, burns
  • Head, spinal and musculoskeletal injuries — manual immobilisation
  • Medical emergencies — breathing difficulties, asthma, chest pain, stroke, seizures, diabetic and allergic emergencies
  • Clinical handover using ATMIST and SBAR, and patient records
