EFAW gives nominated workplace first aiders the knowledge and skills to manage first aid emergencies until further help arrives. Suitable for lower-risk workplaces, it is delivered in one day with practical assessment throughout and a written theory paper. Certificate valid for three years.

Course Content

  • Role and responsibilities of the first aider, including infection control and consent
  • Assessing an incident and the primary survey
  • Managing an unresponsive casualty — adult
  • CPR and AED use
  • Seizure management
  • Choking — adult
  • Wounds, external bleeding and catastrophic bleeding control
  • Recognition and management of shock
  • Minor injuries — cuts, grazes, minor burns and scalds, splinters and nosebleeds

Entry Requirements
